As a key gateway to the continent’s mineral-rich belt, South Africa plays a pivotal role in our African operations. Strategically located across Johannesburg (HQ), Kiepersol (Coal), and Melmoth (Iron Ore), our South African footprint strengthens our global mine-to-metal integration and secures critical raw material supply chains to power responsible steelmaking.
With a total current production capacity of 1.2 MTPA from our coal operations and a planned capacity of 7 MTPA from the upcoming Melmoth project, South Africa is a cornerstone in our long-term growth vision.
South Africa is actively steering inclusive growth aligned with its National Development Plan 2030, a vision that we also echo through investments in infrastructure, employment generation, and sustainable mining practices.
Located in the Mpumalanga province, within the Mkhondo Local Municipality, Kiepersol Colliery is a premium underground mining operation that produces high-quality anthracite and lean bituminous coal, serving both domestic industries and global markets. The mine's low sulphur and phosphorus content has made it the preferred source for leading Ferro Alloy manufacturers in South Africa.

Located in KwaZulu-Natal, the Melmoth project is our flagship greenfield iron ore initiative set to deliver high-grade concentrate while generating long-term socio-economic impact. With JORC-compliant reserves covering 21,000 hectares, it holds enormous potential for long-term value creation and local development.
